JCB and SONS | NEW 24' x 36' GARAGE FRAMING IN WEST GREY

JCB & SONS | New Garage Framing in West Grey.  This week the original JCB was back from putting a roof on in Calgary for my youngest brother Kane.  He has been on site for this project and brings an old school flare to our projects!

 Dad's rocking his

Occidental Leather

Nail Bag and

Stiletto Hammer

.  He has ingrained a love of the work and the equipment we use to do it in all of us.

 We installed

Typar

on the foundation wall to make the exterior

house wrap

continuous with the interior vapour barrier.  We also installed

Sill Gasket

under all the bottom plates of the wall on top of our foundation walls.

Gabriel likes to stop in after school and practice his hammering.  This is how we all started!!

 Nailing off the top plate.

 The 7/16"

OSB

sheathing is going on the walls in this photo and all the blocking has been installed.

Can't wait to get some trusses on our project this week.

This big Hi-Hoe made short work of excavating for the new footings.

The footings are poured wider than the wall to make a strong base to carry the new building, and are dug down below the frost line.  The groove in the centre is called the key and is used to tie the walls into the footings.

Here are the new foundation walls formed and poured with fresh concrete.  The bolts sticking up are the

anchor bolts

used to fasten down the new garage we are building.

Gabriel came to inspect our work.  We found the main run for a weeping bed that didn't exist in the original permit for the septic during excavating.  When we had our footing inspection we discussed it with the building inspector.  We went with his recommendation to use a

sleeve

of 4" ABS under the new garage and than to run the white 3" PVC inside of that for the

weeping bed

for the septic.  This sleeve will help protect the white 3" PVC but will also allow for the weeping bed pipe to be replaced if necessary in the future without having to remove the garage floor.
